Two men airlifted to hospital following house fire in Clare

The cause of the blaze is not yet known.

Residents of a small town in County Clare are in shock as two local men have been airlifted to hospital following an incident which has left at least one of them quite badly injured.

A man in his late 80s and a younger man in his late 40s were taken to Cork University Hospital via aircraft following a fire in a house at Meelick on Friday evening.

Meelick is a town in County Clare just under 10km from Limerick city.

The call was received at approximately 17.56pm on Friday.

The male in his 80s is described as being in a serious condition. Investigations are ongoing.
