Two men have been arrested in connection with Monday’s fatal hit-and-run in Limerick

Two men are now in custody.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána confirmed that two men have been arrested in connection with the death of a young boxer in a hit and run in the early hours of Monday morning.

Gardaí arrested two male suspects, whose ages are unknown at this point. They are currently being detained at a Midlands Garda Station on suspicion of murder. The fatal hit and run incident between a pedestrian and a jeep that occurred on Hyde Road in Limerick at approximately 4:40am on 1 July 2019.

A 20-year-old man was killed in the incident, and his identity was later confirmed as Kevin Sheehy – an up-and-coming boxer who had potential to feature at the 2024 Olympics.

Gardaí are still appealing for anyone with information on the incident, particularly anyone in the area around the time of the collision, who may have dash cam footage, to contact them at Roxboro Road Garda Station on 061 214 340, the Garda confidential line at 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
