Two men arrested after serious assault in Cork

The men were armed with a baseball bat and hammer.

Gardaí are investigating a serious assault that occurred on Great William O’Brien Street in the Blackpool area of Cork at approximately 8.30pm on 17 January.

While on active patrol, Gardaí observed an altercation involving three men.

Two of the men were armed with a baseball bat and hammer. Gardaí intervened and arrested both men.

A man (30 years) was injured in the incident and he was taken to Cork University Hospital with apparent head injuries.

His condition is not thought to be life threatening.

The two men arrested (30s) by Gardaí were detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Mayfield Garda Station.

They have since been released without charge.

A file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
