Two people dead after workplace accident in Co.Offaly

A man and a woman have been pronounced dead after an accident at work.

Two people, a man, aged in his fifties and a female, aged in her twenties were pronounced dead at the scene. There bodies remained at the workplace for a number of hours.

Gardaí and emergency services responded to the fatal workplace accident at an industrial premises in Banagher, Co Offaly, at around 11.40am.

“A post-mortem examination will take place at Tullamore General Hospital at a later date. The coroner has been notified,” a garda statement said.

“The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) has been notified.”

The HSA noted: “The Health and Safety Authority is aware of the fatal incident and has launched an investigation. As such, no further information is available at this time.”
