Very sad news as two more lives are lost to Covid-19.
It was confirmed that two more people had died due to Covid-19 in Ireland at this evening's National Public Health Emergency Team briefing.
As there had been no deaths reported on Sunday, Ireland's current death toll is now 1,717.
Additionally, for more cases of the virus have been diagnosed. The latest figures bring Ireland's cumulative total of cases to 25,383.
There are currently 44 people in hospitals in the Republic of Ireland with Covid-19, 16 of whom are in intensive care units.
Over the last two weeks, Irish data shows that over one-third of all new cases are people under the age of 35. "This is not a disease that solely affects older people. No one is immune, everyone is responsible for limiting the spread of COVID-19," said Chief Medical Officer Dr. Tony Holohan.
Dr. Ronan Glynn, Deputy Chief Medical Officer, said far fewer people are wearing face-coverings (41%) than those who are washing their hands (92%) or physical distancing (91%).
