Two people have died following a three-car collision in Louth

Very sad news.

Two people have been killed following a fatal road traffic collision involving three cars in Louth on Tuesday morning.

Gardaí are investigating the collision which occurred around 8.10am on the Ardee Link Road, just off the M1 at Richardstown.

The driver and the lone occupant of the first car, a man in his early 50s, was fatally injured when his car collided with a second vehicle.

His body has been removed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda where a post-mortem will take place.

The driver of the second vehicle, a man in his mid 30s, was also killed in the collision. His body has been removed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.

A passenger in the second car was taken to hospital for treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

The car also struck a third vehicle and the driver of the car was also taken to hospital for treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

The Garda Forensic Collision investigators are currently at the scene. The road is currently closed and local diversions are in place.

Gardaí in Drogheda are appealing for any witnesses or for anyone with information to come forward. They are also appealing for any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) who were travelling on the M1, or on the Ardee Link Road at Richardstown this morning, to make this footage available to Gardaí.
