Two prisoners who absconded from Loughan House in Cavan arrested by Gardaí

The two prisoners who absconded from Loughan House in Cavan have been arrested and detained by Gardaí.

A statement issued by a Garda spokesperson to JOE on Saturday evening reads: “Gardaí in Cavan were alerted to an incident of two prisoners (23 years and 20 years) who absconded from an open prison in Cavan in the early hours of this morning Saturday 16 October, 2021.

“The Prison Service notified Gardaí and after further investigations both men were arrested and detained in custody at Gurranbraher Garda station in relation to an unauthorised taking of a vehicle.

“Both men are detained under Section 4 of Criminal Justice Act, 1984 and investigations are ongoing.”

Two prisoners have absconded from Loughan House in Cavan, the Irish Prison Service has confirmed.

In a statement to JOE, the Irish Prison Service said the two prisoners escaped the open, low-security prison for males over 18 years of age on Saturday (16 October).

It also confirmed that Gardaí have been notified of the incident.

“When a prisoner absconds An Garda Síochána are informed and they have the power to detain, arrest, and return such persons to prison,” a spokesperson for the Irish Prison Service said.
