UK minister caught on camera making awkward Boris Johnson gaffe

Stephen Porzio

The minister was clearly not happy.

A UK Minister found himself in an awkward moment on Good Morning Britain on Tuesday (5 October) when he said he had “no idea” where Boris Johnson was, despite the Prime Minister being sat just metres away from him.

The funny moment, which can be watched below, occurred as UK Crime and Policing Minister Kit Malthouse was being interviewed by the show’s presenters Alastair Campbell and Susanna Reid.

During the interview, Campbell asked the minister whether Johnson was “honest all the time”, to which Malthouse replied: “In my experience, yes he is.”

Reid then joked if Malthouse had to say that as the Prime Minister was right next to him.

The minister replied: “No, I have no idea where he is,” before turning to look for Johnson.

However, cameras almost instantly revealed Johnson sitting just metres away from the minister being interviewed.

Clearly unimpressed, Malthouse tried to turn the conversation away from the gaffe.

“Is there any chance we can talk about something of substance and importance to the British people today?” Malthouse asked.

“I realise, Alastair, you’re there to try and make some kind of political point and I’m not sure everybody would regard you as an impartial observer of these matters.

“But if you want to talk about crime or violence or some of those issues, I’m presenting myself to talk to you about that.”
