Unsettled weather expected over Easter weekend as “widespread” showers on the cards

Stephen Porzio

Met Éireann’s forecast says the rain will turn heavy at times.

The weather in Ireland is expected to be “unsettled” over the Easter weekend, with rain forecasted on Saturday followed by showers on Easter Sunday and Monday.

Met Éireann’s forecast for the next few days says that Good Friday will start mostly cloudy with scattered outbreaks of rain.

However, conditions are set to brighten up and become drier throughout the day with a mix of sunny spells and scattered showers developing.

Highest temperatures of 13 to 17 degrees are expected in a light or variable breeze.

Any lingering showers are predicted to fade early on Friday night as conditions become mostly dry with long clear spells though some mist and fog will develop overnight.

It is forecasted then that Saturday will be largely dry to start with a mix of cloud and sunny spells.

However, a spell of rain is set to spread over the western half of the country throughout the day, becoming heaviest and most persistent in the southwest.

The east, meanwhile, will likely stay dry and bright until evening with highest temperatures of 12 to 16 degrees in moderate to fresh winds.

According to the forecast, Saturday night will be cloudy as outbreaks of rain spread eastwards across the country, occasionally turning heavy and becoming persistent in southern counties.

Easter Sunday is expected to start with rain that will eventually clear east during the day.

However, it will be followed from the west by “widespread showers” that will turn heavy at times in the afternoon with the chance of hail.

Highest temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees are predicted in moderate to fresh winds, but it is said conditions will turn cooler as the rain clears.

Sunday night is set then to become largely dry with clear spells, though scattered showers will feed into western coastal areas.

Met Éireann’s forecast says Monday will feel “much cooler” with a mix of sunny spells and showers, some of the latter possibly heavy with hail.

Highest temperatures of just 9 to 12 degrees in moderate to fresh winds are expected.
