VIDEO: Aodhán O’Riordáin’s angry and articulate speech in the Seanad

“When are we going to have the moral courage to speak in terms other than economy, all the time, and to realise what is happening?”

Senator Aodhán O’Riordáin gave a passionate speech in the Seanad on Thursday regarding the Irish government’s reaction to Donald Trump’s victory in the US Presidential election.

“I am frightened about what’s happening in this world and I am frightened about our inability to stand up against it,” he said.

“America has just elected a fascist, and the best thing that people in Ireland can do is ring him up and ask him if it’s OK to still bring the shamrock on St. Patrick’s Day.”

This is the political leader that Ireland needs. Some day, with luck.
