That headline might be a bit of a mouthful to swallow but it will all make sense when you see the video.

One of the perils of being a live news reporter is that there is no real way to prepare for the behaviour of ordinary people once they are put in front of a camera.

Some might swear, others might get aggressive and others still might do something a little bit crazy, but KTLA reporter Courtney Friel could hardly have expected what was coming when she interviewed a resident in Rancho Cucamonga, California yesterday while covering an outbreak of wildfires in the area.

Actually, considering that the guy in question was topless, carrying a dog and was still happy to appear on live television, maybe she should have had an idea that this was going to be no ordinary interview and so it proved as he took the opportunity to ask her on a date live on air.

Friel tried to be professional but it was clear she was flustered, illustrated by the inane and slightly bizarre exchange (‘What do you think of it (the fire)?’ ‘It’s pretty cool’) that took place between them immediately afterwards.

We’re not sure whether or not Friel agreed to go on a date with said topless guy when the cameras stopped rolling, but we reckon he might have been in with a shot…
