VIDEO: Barack Obama reads from the Galway City Tribune about a rumoured trip to Ireland

Colm Boohig

He’s a cheeky fella.

As we all know, US President Barack Obama has big connections to our Emerald Isle, and he probably loves us more than ever after Enda Kenny brought him the Irish motherload of tasty treats.

The American leader was in chirpy form when he read a Galway City Tribune front page article, originally published last summer, to a large audience regarding a rumoured story that he was to deliver his Paddy’s Day speech this year on Irish soil.

While he laughed off the suggestion, Obama was quick to mention his famous 2011 trip to Ireland, as well as referencing his Irish cousins in attendance (you can hear that distinctive Irish cheer).

His hint at a future Irish ambassadorial role is also very interesting.

Have a watch of the short clip below.
