It takes a lot to disturb the normally unflappable Bryan Dobson live on air, but a couple of protesters managed to do it on the Six One News last night.
Dobbo was discussing the current state of the property market with Ronan Lyons during the Six One news last night when a few protesters, one who was holding a placard reading ‘Burn the Bonds Not the Billions’ and another who was holding an Enda Kenny mask, appeared in the background having sensed the opportunity to get their message across on live television.
Having first acknowledged the protesters as ‘visitors’ Dobson became more agitated later on in the broadcast and cut off Lyons mid-conversation, saying, “I’m going to stop that there because the idiots behind you are a bit of a distraction”.
Watching the clip above, Lyons didn’t appear to have been too distracted by the presence of the protesters in the background during his report and in fairness to the protesters, they didn’t appear to be doing much apart from hanging around in the background when Dobson cut the report short.
Dobbo’s actions attracted a fair bit of criticism in the comments under the YouTube video (see here) and on a Reddit Ireland thread (see here) and also on social media circles, with accusations of a lack of impartiality on his behalf.
Feel free to let us know what you think in the comments box below, but it seems, to this observer at least, that he may have over-reacted just a little in this case.
