Video: Holy sh*t; skydiver captures moment he was almost hit by a meteorite

This is the first ever footage of a meteorite after it has passed through the Earth's atmosphere.

JOE

This is the first ever footage of a meteorite after it has passed through the Earth’s atmosphere.

Norwegian skydiver Anders Helstrup had a lucky escape as a meteorite hurtled just past him and his parachute on a recent jump. Anders told Norwegian station NKR that he didn’t see it at the time and it was only when he looked back at the video from his helmet cam that he saw it.

“I got the feeling that there was something, but I didn’t register what was happening.”

The folks at the Uniuversity of Oslo, who examined the video, reckon that it is definitely a meteorite and that it was a fragment of a much larger meteorite that broke up about 20 kilometres from the surface of the Earth.

Check out the video below to see the incident. The meteorite flies by at 0.22 but they do slow down the video too so you can get a proper look at the amazing moment.
