VIDEO: Reporter completely stumps a US state official with a relatively easy question

Tony Cuddihy

The lights were on but, sadly, everyone had gone to the shops.

US state official Stuart Jones had a moment he’d sooner forget when he was questioned by reporter Dave Clark about his country’s criticism of Iran’s democracy, given the American relationship with Saudi Arabia, a country with arguably a far more questionable record on human rights.

Once the questioned had been asked, Jones – the United States’ Ambassador to Iraq from 2014 to 2016, and likely something of an expert on the subject – paused.

Then he paused some more.

Then, just when he was about to answer the question, he paused a bit more.

Then he had a good pause for himself.

Then he said something but, by that point, the bins were being emptied and everybody had gone home.

This is incredibly awkward.
