A mystery hole 80-metre wide, and of an unknown depth, has been captured on film from a helicopter flying over a very remote part of Russia. How the hole appeared is unknown, with theories such as a meteor strike, a sinkhole or an underground explosion all being floated but scientists are yet to arrive and investigate.
The area it has appeared in is called Yamal, which translates as ‘end of the world’ in the local lingo and it is a pretty good description, sitting as it does on a peninsula that juts out into the Arctic Sea in northernmost Russia.

The area is one of Russia’s richest for gas so one theory is that it was at the root of an explosion but other theories, from UFOs to the home of some giant burrowing mega creature, are also sure to surface if scientists can’t explain it soon.
