News footage from the Easter Rising has been made publicly available on YouTube
As part of a huge project, British Pathé have been adding thousands of videos to their YouTube channel that are full of historical value and priceless footage from the 20th Century.
Of most interest to an Irish audience will be some footage of Dublin and Ireland at the time of the 1916 rising, which features shots of Liberty Hall.
The whole project consists of 3,500 hours of coverage on 85,000 films, which would have been shown as the news for decades, and have documented some of the century’s biggest events. The archive stretches from 1896 to 1976, and has plenty of footage from around the globe, from news about the two World Wars, to the Titanic and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
