A video of a teacher being threatened by students in a school in Chicago in 2011 has sparked a debate about teaching in American schools.

The old footage shows a student picking up a chair and threatening to hit a substitute teacher for getting his name wrong.

The teacher remained seated in her chair during the ordeal as she pleaded with the kids to stop, watch the footage here.

The school the incident took place in released the following statement:

“The safety of students and staff is our top priority at Chicago Public Schools, and the behavior in this video is completely unacceptable. Over the past four years, CPS has worked hard to provide all schools with restorative justice and social and emotional learning supports, both of which are shown to reduce misconducts and keep at-risk students connected to their school communities.”

They also said the pupils have since left the school and the teacher in the clip hasn’t worked there in a few years.
