The incident happened as Burton was leaving a function in north Dublin last night.

Tánaiste Joan Burton was heckled and had her car blocked by a group of anti-water charges protestors outside the Regency Hotel in Drumcondra, where she had been attending a meeting of the Marriage Equality Referendum Campaign.

Burton was heckled by a group of anti-water charges protestors, a number of whom lay down in front of the car in which the Tánaiste was travelling before being removed by Gardai, allowing the car to leave the scene.

Burton was accompanied at the Marriage Equality function by Today FM’s Mairéad Farrell, Marriage Equality activist Gráinne Healy, Labour TD John Lyons and Dublin footballer Philly McMahon to encourage support for a ‘Yes’ vote in the referendum on May 22.
