Look at him there, swanning around as if he owns the road, the beak of him.
Bumper to bumper traffic in Dublin of a Friday afternoon is nothing new, but we can imagine the surprise of motorists in this particular area of the capital yesterday when they realised what was causing the hold-up.
A crash? No. A Garda checkpoint? Nope. The cause of the traffic delay was, in fact, a rather tense looking stand-off between a Garda and a stubborn bird who obviously had no intention of leaving the road or was having second thoughts about crossing it having heard many tales about chickens and what happens ‘on the other side’.
In all seriousness, it was very good of the Gardai to go to such an effort to try and ensure the safety of the bird in question, but it’s certainly not something you see every day and probably not something the Gardai present ever trained for; they probably just had to wing it.
Hat-tip to David Wall for sending this one into us. Davidis now in with a shot of winning €250 by the end of the month.
