Video: This ‘murmuration’ of starlings in Galway is flocking amazing

You don’t need to be an avid bird watcher to admit that this is an incredible sight.

We admit that we don’t know a whole lot about birds (no snide jokes at the back) but we know a spectacular sight when we see one and this gathering of a flock of starlings in different formations in Galway – a phenomenon known as a ‘murmuration’ – is a spectacular sight indeed.

The video was posted on Facebook by Donna Naughton Kemp, who revealed that the murmuration took place beside the church in Lackagh in Galway and judging by the beautiful patterns woven by the starlings, this is something the flock had done before; they weren’t winging it that’s for sure.

As Donna said under the post, she could have stayed there watching it all evening, but if we were to do likewise, we’d bring an umbrella just in case; there are a helluva lot of birds there after all.

Hat-tip to Larry Byrne for sending this one our way
