An extremely powerful tornado has struck in Mississippi tonight, and this local station stayed on air for as long as they possibly could.

There are reports of severe damage in the city of Tupelo, in Mississippi, tonight after a massive tornado hit the place best known as the birthplace of Elvis Presley.

This image, of a petrol station, shows just what sort of havoc has been wreaked.

But the most dramatic footage comes from local station WTVA TV, who were on air to alert their viewers about the storm and the evasive actions they needed to take.

However, eventually, the storm was so close that they too had to evacuate and take cover.
