We could be getting some of the highest February temperatures on record in the next week

warm February temperatures

So far, all the forecasts are predicting a very mild month.

Last week, parts of the country reached temperatures as high as 16.5 degrees, making it warmer here than in Madrid or Athens.

And during the upcoming week, it looks like that is set to continue.

Carlow Weather posted a series of forecast patterns, showing a long spell of high pressure across much of Ireland:

Additionally, Channel 4 weatherman Liam Hutton tweeted out his prediction for the days ahead:

“Signs that impressively warm air is likely to surge towards the UK and Ireland later next week,” he said.

“If it happens, there’s a chance that the record for the UK’s warmest February day (19.7C) could be challenged. For context, the same airmass in summer would give temps around 25-28C!”

Yep, a potentially record-breaking temperature day next week for Ireland and the UK.

At the moment, Met Éireann have only set out their forecast as far as Wednesday, with the highest predicted temperatures as far as then reaching 13C, but for beyond that, this is what their website had to say:

“Further outlook, Thursday onwards: Current indications suggest that it will become even milder.

“However, it will remain changeable and unsettled at first, with occasional rain and drizzle, especially in Atlantic coastal counties, but drier in the east and southeast.

“There are signs of drier conditions countrywide next weekend, but this is uncertain at this stage.”

So nothing set in sunny stone for us just yet, but fingers crossed!
