Warrants issued for the arrests of TDs Clare Daly and Mick Wallace

They could be spending Christmas in jail.

Independent TD Mick Wallace and Socialist Party TD Clare Daly refusal to pay fines for breaching security at Shannon Airport last year could see them spend Christmas in jail.

They were arrested at Shannon Airport in July 2014 after they attempted to carry out an inspection of a US military plane which was parked next to the airport’s main runway.

The Sunday Independent are reporting that warrants for the arrests of both politicians were sent out to their respective local Garda stations this week.

The pair were fined €2,000 and given a pay deadline of July 22, but refused to pay. The terms of the warrants means that if they don’t pay this time around they’ll serve a 30-day prison sentence.

The Sindo spoke to Mick Wallace and he said, “under no circumstances will we pay the fines.”

It looks like they’ll be behind bars for Christmas.
