Gardaí are seeking help from the public.

An Garda Síochána have shared footage of the vehicle believed to be involved in a fatal hit and run in Dublin earlier on Friday (31 May).

Gardaí are now seeking witnesses to the incident. In a statement issued earlier today, Gardaí confirmed: “Gardaí are interested in speaking with the owner/driver of the pictured tractor unit to assist with our enquiries.

“Gardaí continue to appeal for anyone with information on this collision to contact them, particularly anyone who may have been in the Swords Road (N1)/ Collins Avenue Junction area between 12:15am and 12:30am on 31st May, 2019.”

“We are interested in speaking to anyone who may have dash cam or CCTV footage or anyone with information on the movements/whereabouts of the HGV believed to be involved in this incident.”

They have also shared a video of the vehicle on social media.

The HGV vehicle believed to be involved in this incident failed to remain at the scene and is reported to have been travelling from Whitehall in the direction of Donnycarney. The HGV is described as being white in colour and was not carrying a trailer at the time of the collision.

The man, aged in his 20s, was taken to Beaumont Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The scene of the incident has now reopened following a Garda Forensic Examination.

UPDATE: A man (50s) was arrested this evening and is currently detained under the provisions of Section 4, Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Ballymun Garda Station.

The HGV articulated tractor unit has also been recovered.
