Israel holocaust

An extremely moving video.

On Thursday 2 May, Israel came to a standstill on with a two-minute siren wailing across the country in remembrance of the 6 million Jewish victims of the Holocaust.

Footage captured hundreds of Israeli people getting out of their cars, as sirens blared, while people paid their respects.

According to a video posted by ABC News, pedestrians stood in place, buses stopped on busy streets and cars pulled over on motorways, to commemorate the Holocaust, where it is estimated that six million Jewish people were murdered.

You can take a look at the moving video below:

A wreath-laying ceremony at the Yad Vashem memorial followed the complete halt, with many Israeli leaders and Holocaust survivors in attendance.

As well as that, other events like prayers and musical performances took place in schools and community centres across the country.

The names of those who died in the genocide are also read out in parliament throughout the day, on this date every year.

TV programming during the day tends to feature documentaries about the holocaust, while a number of businesses close for the entirety of the day.
