It was mixed in with calls of “Lock her up” and “Build the wall”.

The 2020 Trump election campaign continues to line up one controversy after another, as the last few days have seen the president claim that children detention centres at US/Mexico border are getting “great reviews”, as well as sending a series of what have been deemed racially charged attacks aimed at four congresswomen.

Four democratic congresswomen responded to those tweets, including Somalia-born, American citizen, democratic representative Ilhan Omar, who called Trump’s attack a “pivotal moment in our country,” with Trump “openly violating the oath he took” with “human rights abuses”.

Well, the response to Omar’s criticism could be heard in North Carolina, at the latest rally for Trump’s 2020 presidential campaign, at which Trump claimed Omar looks down on “hard working Americans”, saying that “ignorance is pervasive in many parts of this country”, before stating that Omar has a history of launching “vicious, anti-Semitic screeds”.

This in turn caused the crowd to launch into a repeated chorus of “Get her out”, as well as “Lock her up” and “Build the wall”.

In response, CNN presidential historian Timothy Naftali told Anderson Cooper: “We’ve had racist presidents, but they did not express their racism as head of state, the way that Donald Trump through his actions – most importantly the tweets the other day and how he responded to Charlottesville – the way that President Trump has done.”
