Footage of the incident has gone viral.

Tommy Robinson has been in the headlines for the past few months.

He unsuccessfully ran for a European Parliament seat with UKIP, failing to secure enough votes to recoup his deposit.

He was also hit by several milkshakes while on the campaign trail.

It seems that Robinson is the centre of controversy once more as video footage emerged on Friday of him punching a football fan in Portugal. The incident happened outside the football stadium where England played the Netherlands on Thursday evening.

Robinson has since claimed that he acted in self-defence, saying on his Telegram account: “I was walking through there – I hadn’t had a drink, I was with my wife – that man … come up to me twice getting rowdy, in my face, being abusive, being aggressive.”

Video of the incident has circulated online.

According to the Guardian: Deputy chief constable Mark Roberts, the lead for football policing on the National Police Chiefs’ Council, said: “We have been informed of an incident outside the Guimarães stadium last night and the footage has been passed to our counterparts in Portugal for further investigation.

“As with all the disorder that has taken place in Portugal over the past few days, anyone found to be involved in disorder could be subject to a banning order on their return to the UK.”
