The weather this Bank Holiday weekend will not be as nice as last weekend

Scattered showers and a risk of thunder are on the cards for the next few days.

Met Éireann has revealed that this Bank Holiday weekend is set to be cloudy with scattered showers and a risk of thunder, as last week’s clear and warm spell of weather has come to an end.

While Friday will start off dry with plenty of sunshine, Met Éireann’s forecast says showers will develop in the afternoon and will become more widespread across the southern half of the country throughout the day.

Some of these showers will be heavy with Met Éireann warning of a slight risk of hail and thunder.

Saturday will also begin mainly dry with sunshine before clouds increase and scattered showers develop – though Met Éireann says they won’t be quite as heavy or as widespread as the previous couple of days.

Parts of the west and northwest are set to be mainly dry with sunshine, with showers mostly in Leinster, Munster and east Ulster.

Sunday then will bring a mix of cloud and sunshine, though clouds will generally increase throughout the day.

There will also be a scattering of showers, with the rain more widespread in parts of the north and northwest where they will be heavy at times.

There will be less showers than previous days in the south and east, meanwhile.

The Bank Holiday Monday will be a wet and windy day, according to Met Éireann, with an area of low pressure tracking in over the country.

The forecaster says “persistent and at times heavy rain” will become widespread throughout the morning and early afternoon.

While some bright or sunny spells will follow, they will be accompanied by showers or further longer spells of rain.

There is also a risk of some thundery bursts on Monday, as temperatures are set to range from 9 to around 12 or 13 degrees over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Earlier in the week, Met Éireann’s meteorologist Mark Bowe told JOE weather conditions for this weekend would be “unsettled”.
