You’re about to be… thunderstruck.
All of us hoping for a reprieve from the miserable weather we’ve endured recently will have to wait a while longer if the latest forecast from Met Éireann is anything to go by.
While this week will be significantly milder than last week, when snow and ice warnings were frequent, it will still be far from pleasant, with unsettled weather, plenty of spells of rain and strong winds in store for the foreseeable future.
Monday, with “just a few patches of mist and drizzle” and temperatures of 7 to 11 degrees, promises to be the most tolerable day of this week, with outbreaks of rain spreading quickly across the country on Monday night.
Rain showers will continue throughout Tuesday and Wednesday, particularly in the north and west of the country, with the risk of hail and thunder on Wednesday night, especially in Atlantic coastal counties.
That risk of hail and thunder will remain on Thursday, when showers will threaten to become wintry at times ahead of a cool night when frost will be “fairly widespread” throughout the country.
Friday, mercifully, will be dry and bright, at least for a little while, with the weekend promising even more wet and unsettled conditions.
