Winds of up to 110 km/h have been predicted.

With a cold blast of weather and even snow showers forecast for later this week, Ireland will also have to bear the brunt of Storm Caroline that is expected to hit the UK in the coming days.

Given its name by the UK Met Office, Storm Caroline is an Atlantic storm that is expected to pass close to the north coast of Scotland on Thursday morning, with strong and blustery winds also expected over Ireland later in the week.

As a result, Met Éireann has issued a status yellow weather warning for Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo, Clare and Kerry, with northwest winds expected to gust to up to 110 km/h, with the strongest winds expected over coastal areas and over high ground.

The weather warning comes into effect at 3am on Thursday morning and will remain in place until 8pm that evening, so if you are out and about in affected counties, especially with the cold blast also likely to have taken hold at that stage, make sure you take the necessary precautions.
