As if we hadn’t had enough snow and ice, now there’s wind and rain on the way.

If you had any high hopes for this weekend being a pleasant one, then we’re sorry to tell you that you may as well discount them straight away.

On Friday afternoon, Met Éireann issued their latest batch of seemingly never-ending weather warnings and no county in the Republic of Ireland is being let off the hook.

A status yellow wind warning has been issued for the entire provinces of Munster and Leinster, as well as Galway, with southwest to west winds expected to reach mean speeds of between 55 and 65 km/h, with gusts up to 110 km/h possible on Saturday afternoon and evening.

The warning will come into effect at 3pm on Saturday and remain in place until 8pm that evening.

The rest of the country hasn’t got off the hook as a status yellow rainfall warning has been issued for Saturday for the entire province of Connacht as well as Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal.

The warning will come into effect at midnight on Friday night and will remain in place for 24 hours, with accumulations of between 30 and 40 mm expected in that period.

Even just a little respite from the miserable weather would be nice, but there’s no sign of it arriving for the time being at least.
