Two children dead following car fire in Westmeath

An adult woman was injured as a result of the incident.

Two children have died and one woman has been injured following a car fire that took place in Westmeath.

At approximately 4pm on Friday (9 September), Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of the fire in the Multyfarnham area of Westmeath.

A female adult was taken from the scene by air ambulance to a Dublin hospital for treatment. Her injuries have been described as serious.

An infant boy was removed from the scene by ambulance and taken to Midland Regional Hospital in Mullingar. He has since been pronounced dead.

The remains of a juvenile female were also discovered at the scene.

Investigations are ongoing.
