Wheelchair user dies after falling into the water at Dún Laoghaire pier

Tragic news.

A woman using a wheelchair has died after being pulled from the sea in Dublin on Monday (27 June).

The woman was in her 50s and entered the water at Dún Laoghaire’s East Pier, an area known to be a popular walking spot.

The Irish Coast Guard and Gardaí were called to the scene before her body and the wheelchair were recovered from the water at around 2.30pm.

Gardaí have confirmed that she was pronounced dead and that a post-mortem is expected to be conducted over the coming days.

They are also investigating all circumstances that led to the incident and her death.

A Garda spokesperson said in a statement to JOE: “Gardaí are investigating all the circumstances after the body of a female in her 50s was recovered from the water at Dun Laoghaire at 2.30pm this afternoon, Monday 27 June.

“Her body has since been removed to the mortuary at Loughlinstown where a post-mortem will take place at a later date.”
