Check to see if you’ve got one of these brands.

Whirlpool have announced a major product recall due to a fire risk with a variety of tumble dryers. The recall was issued on the website of the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission.

Certain dryers made between 2004 and 2015 from models of Hotpoint, Indesit, Creda, Swan and Proline dryers are affected.

Whirlpool branded dryers are not affected.

If your dryer if from one of these aforementioned brands, was made before September 2015, and has not been modified by the manufacturer, it may pose a fire risk.

If your dryer is affected by this warning, Whirlpool are asking you to unplug it immediately and stop using it until it has been made safe.

Customers are being advised to take down the serial and model numbers from their dryers and check them on the website indesithotpointsafety.com.

You can also call 1800 804 320 and the product recall starts on 5 August.

In terms of the options available for a replacement, consumers can choose between a new vented or condenser dryer, provided free-of-charge. Whirlpool will also arrange for free-of-charge collection and disposal of the consumer’s old dryer.

A free-of-charge in-home modification is also an option. Basically, a Whirlpool engineer will visit the consumer’s home to carry out the free-of-charge safety upgrade. The appointment takes approximately one hour and consumers can schedule the engineer visit for a date and time that is convenient to them.

A heavily discounted upgrade is also available whereby consumers can return their affected dryer and upgrade to a superior model– €85 for a vented model or €136 for a condenser dryer. Whirlpool will also arrange for free-of-charge collection and disposal of the consumer’s old dryer.

The final option is an age-based refund where consumers can return their affected dryer and receive a refund up to €165, with the value dependent on the age of the appliance.

Whirlpool will also arrange free-of-charge collection and disposal of the consumer’s old dryer.

More information is available here and if you’re curious about how to check the serial number, the images below could help.

Once again, after obtaining the serial number, consumers can check if their dryer is affected by visiting www.indesithotpointsafety.com or calling 1800 804 320.
