Congrats to this year’s winner.

Aoife O’Sullivan from Cork has won the 2018 Miss Ireland competition.

She will now go on to represent Ireland at the Miss World finals this December in China.

A primary school teacher, she first entered the competition three years ago when she finished in second place, but she decided to give it another go this year.

According to the Cork Evening Echo, O’Sullivan took up modelling after a knee injury prevented her from pursuing camogie at a higher level.

“I did [my knee] twice actually and was told I couldn’t play sport any more, which was devastating, so I turned to modelling to fill the void, and that became my hobby,” she said.

The 23-year-old graduated as a primary school teacher from Mary Immaculate in Limerick two years ago and teaches senior infants in Cork.

The Miss Ireland competition underwent some changes this year with the elimination of some categories, including the swimwear round, and the introduction of compulsory charity work.
