A woman in her 90s has been pronounced dead in Cork following a fatal car accident

Investigations are ongoing.

An elderly woman has been pronounced dead following a fatal road traffic collision in Cork on Thursday.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses of the accident which happened on Sleaveen Road in Macroom at approximately 5.20pm.

A woman in her 90s was seriously injured when her car was involved in a collision another car. She was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

A man driving the second car was left uninjured.

The woman’s body was removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Cork for a post mortem examination. The Coroner has been notified.

The scene of the collision is currently closed to facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions are expected to remain in place until midnight.
