Woman in her 30s dies in fatal incident in Galway as man arrested

The fatal incident occurred today near the Galway Road, in Clifden.

An Garda Síochána is investigating all circumstances surrounding fatal incident which occurred today (Thursday, May 28) near the Galway Road, in Clifden.

This morning Gardaí attended an emergency residential premises. The body of an adult female (aged in her 30s) was discovered at a nearby location.

The incident did not occur inside an emergency residential premises.

A man in his 30s, who is now receiving medical treatment, has been arrested under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

An Garda Síochána is currently not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident and is following a definite line of enquiry.

The scene has been preserved for an examination by the Garda Technical Bureau and the Coroner and State Pathologist have been notified.

The woman's body will be removed in due course, and a post mortem examination will be carried out, the results of which will assist in determining the course of the investigation.
