Woman in New York suing her 12-year old nephew for $127k over a hug that led to a broken wrist

A woman in New York is suing her 12-year old nephew after she fell and broke her wrist when he leapt into her arms to greet her at his eighth birthday party four years ago. According to Westport News, Jennifer Connell, a human resources manager in Manhattan, has claimed that her nephew acted unreasonably with an over-enthusiastic greeting that caused her to fall and break her wrist. Testifying in court on Monday, Connell said that she loves her nephew but that he should be held responsible for his actions and, as a result, is suing him for damages worth $127,000. Connell’s nephew, who she described as “very loving, sensitive,” was present in court alongside his father and was described as appearing ‘confused’. His mother died last year. Commenting on the impact the injury has had on her life, Connell said that she did not complain at the time but that her life has been “very difficult” since the injury because of “how crowded it is in Manhattan”. “I was at a party recently, and it was difficult to hold my hors d’oeuvre plate,” she is reported to have said.
