Woman killed in two-car traffic collision in Laois

The incident took place on Sunday morning.

Gardaí are investigating following a fatal road traffic collision that occurred on Lea Road in Portarlington, Laois on Sunday (7 July).

At approximately 8.20am, a woman in her mid twenties was fatally injured when her car collided with another vehicle.

Her body was removed from the scene to the mortuary in Midlands Regional Hospital in Portlaoise where a post mortem will take place on Monday.

The four occupants travelling in the second car all received injuries and were taken to hospital.

Their injuries have been described as non life-threatening.

The driver and one passenger – father and child – were taken to Midlands Regional Hospital, while the other two passengers – mother and child – were taken to Tallaght University Hospital in Dublin.

As of Sunday afternoon, the scene is being examined by Garda Forensic Examiners and the road has been closed off with local diversions put in place.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information, particularly anyone who was in the area at the time of the collision and who may have dash cam footage to contact Gardaí in Portlaoise on 057 786 4100.
