Woman in her 20s dies following fatal assault in Meath

A man has been arrested.

A woman has died following a fatal assault that took place in Meath on Friday morning, 12 August.

Gardaí responded to a call of an unresponsive woman at a house in the Rathmore area of Athboy in the early hours of Friday. National Ambulance Service personnel also attended the scene.

The woman, who was aged in her 20s, was declared deceased at the house.

At the time of writing on Friday morning, her body remains at the scene, which has been preserved so that a forensic and technical examination may be carried out.

The office of the State Pathologist and the Garda Technical Bureau have both been notified. A post-mortem examination is set to be arranged.

A man aged in his 30s was later arrested at a different location. He has been detained at Ashbourne Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

A senior investigating officer has been appointed to the investigation. Enquiries are ongoing.
