You have the day off today if you’re a student in an IT college

Colm Boohig

Strike action is taking place around Ireland.

14 of Ireland’s Institute of Technologies will be closed today as staff are protesting.

RTÉ has reported the news, with employees halting their work for one day over concerns in funding cuts.

While the number of IT students in Ireland has increased by a third over the last eight years, there is a 10% decrease in full-time staff numbers.

Today’s strike is being supported by the Union of Students in Ireland.
