New episode of true crime podcast West Cork to be released in the coming days

Stephen Porzio

A lot has happened with the case since the previous episode.

A new episode of the acclaimed true crime podcast West Cork is set to be released in the coming days.

Beginning in 2018, the series centres on the murder of French producer Sophie Toscan du Plantier who was found dead near her holiday home in Schull, West Cork back in 1996.

The show – which has released 13 episodes to date – has been a worldwide success, earning praise from the likes of Time Magazine and documentarian Louis Theroux.

Though released first in 2018, the show was recently made available to listen to for free for the first time through podcasting service Acast.

In its last episode, the show covered how suspect in the case Ian Bailey had been charged by the French authorities with the murder after du Plantier’s family pushed for their own investigation into the killing.

Since the show last aired, there was a trial in Paris over the murder which Bailey was not present for after winning a legal battle against extradition.

Discussing the upcoming episode on Today FM, co-host of the West Cork podcast Jennifer Forde said: “It’s about the trial, but really [it’s] more about Sophie and her life and about who she was and about what losing her meant to this family. It’s framed differently.”

Forde stated the new episode will be released “imminently” and in the next few days and that people who have subscribed to the show already should automatically receive it in their feed once it is released.

People can also subscribe to Yarn.FM to receive an update once the episode is available.
