A new section of a book has detailed Barack Obama’s exact reaction to Donald Trump being elected President.
A book entitled Obama: The Call of History claims that Obama felt that the blame laid squarely at the feet of Hillary Clinton following the election of Donald Trump in 2016.
The book, which is written by New York Times correspondent Peter Baker, depicts the former president questioning his legacy and feeling personally insulted that American voters elected Trump instead of Clinton, whom he campaigned for heavily in the closing days of the 2016 contest.
According to CNN, weeks after the election, Obama told his staff that “This stings. This hurts”, in relation to the election of Trump.
But the book also claims that the former President did feel that Hillary Clinton was to blame for how the election transpired.
The book reads: “She was the one who could not translate his strong record and healthy economy into a winning message. Never mind that Trump essentially ran the same playbook against Clinton that Obama did eight years earlier, portraying her as a corrupt exemplar of the status quo. She brought many of her troubles on herself.”
Obama: The Call of History was originally released in 2017, but these new excerpts are from sections of the book that are due to be released next week.
