Donald Trump wants to change shower head laws because they ruin his hair

Wil Jones

“Because my hair — I don’t know about you, but it has to be perfect. Perfect.”

So when you think of the words “Donald Trump” and “Hair”, you probably don’t think of anything good. But now it seems maybe Trump has a reason for his terrible barnet: the US’ draconian shower laws, which stop his hair from being “perfect”.

And Trump, being the dynamic go-getter he is, is going to do something about it.

The US government has proposed changing the laws on restricting the water flow from showerheads. Under current laws from 1992, US shower heads can produce no more than 2.5 gallons (9.5 litres) of water per minute.

The Department of Energy proposed the changes on Wednesday, and the idea seems to come partially from Trump himself complaining that his hair doesn’t get enough love in the shower.

“We’re bringing back consumer choice in home appliances so that you can buy washers and dryers, showerheads and faucets,” said Trump at a White House event on rolling back regulations in July.

“So showerheads — you take a shower, the water doesn’t come out. You want to wash your hands, the water doesn’t come out. So what do you do? You just stand there longer or you take a shower longer?”

“Because my hair — I don’t know about you, but it has to be perfect. Perfect.”

What about water being wasted though, Donald?

“In many places — in most places of the country, water is not a problem,” Trump continued at the same event. “They don’t know what to do with it. It’s called ‘rain.’ They don’t have a problem.”

Energy conservation groups have criticised the Department of Energy’s proposals.

Speaking to AP, Andrew deLaski, executive director of the Appliance Standards Awareness Project, called the proposal “silly”, saying that with four or more nozzles “you could have 10, 15 gallons per minute powering out of the showerhead, literally probably washing you out of the bathroom.”
