Ellen Coyne is JOE’s first Head of Politics.

Maximum Media is delighted to announce that Ellen Coyne has been appointed JOE’s first Head of Politics. She will be spearheading campaigning, dynamic and influential political projects across video, audio and written content.

Ellen Coyne has established herself as one of Ireland’s brightest young journalists. Her influential work, during her period at The Times Ireland, has had an impact, not just on the political world in Ireland, but more importantly on the lives of Irish people.

“Ellen is a powerhouse and her appointment demonstrates Maximum Media’s commitment to recruiting the brightest young talent in the country,” JOE’s Head of Content, Paddy McKenna, said on Monday.

“We’re doing something different that hasn’t been done in Irish media before and I think people are thirsty for it,” Coyne says.

“I’m thrilled Ellen has chosen to join JOE where she will work with a brilliant content team which includes the best young writers in the country, like Carl Kinsella and Dave Hanratty, and the sharpest minds, such as Michael Fry and Justine Stafford,” McKenna added. “She will also work closely with Head of Projects, Dion Fanning, and build on the work already being done on a diverse range of issues that our users care passionately about.”

Coyne worked for four years at The Times Ireland, during which time she broke stories on the National Maternity Hospital and the government’s Strategic Communications Unit among others as her work regularly shaped the agenda. She won political story of the year in 2017 and 2018 at the Newsbrands Ireland Journalism Awards

She will continue her campaigning journalism as Head of Politics for JOE.

“This is a dream job for a journalist and the fact I will be doing it on a digital platform makes it more exciting because I know we can reach so many people,” she says.

In her new role, Coyne will focus on the issues that are most relevant to people today, whether it is the housing crisis, Brexit, ending Direct Provision or ensuring that the change in Irish society, as signalled by the Marriage Equality referendum and Repeal, continues.

Her appointment signals JOE’s commitment to covering the issues facing Ireland in a distinct, engaged and passionate way.
