John McCain blasts Donald Trump over his meeting with Putin

‘One of the most disgraceful performances by a president in memory’.

Former U.S presidential candidate John McCain has torn into Donald Trump following his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday.

Trump is being heavily criticised for his behaviour at the press conference following the meeting, with CNN’s Anderson Cooper referring to it as ‘one of the most disgraceful performances by an American president’.

Former U.S Senator John McCain has seconded Cooper’s sentiments, stating that: “Today’s press conference in Helsinki was one of the most disgraceful performances by a president in memory.”

McCain went on to say that: “President Trump proved not only unable, but unwilling to stand up to Putin. He and Putin seemed to be speaking from the same script as the president made a conscious choice to defend a tyrant against the fair questions of a free press.”

The criticisms come following a press conference in which Trump stated that he had no reason to believe that Russia had interfered with the 2016 presidential election – despite the fact that the findings of US intelligence found that they had done.

McCain and Cooper weren’t alone in their thoughts. The word ‘treason’ was trending worldwide on Twitter, as millions voiced their outrage with today’s events.

Trump is yet to officially reply to any criticisms as of yet.
