We played each and every one of these games back in the day…

Looking ahead at what is set to arrive throughout 2023 in terms of gaming (take a look at our big preview of releases right here), this year also represents the 10-year anniversary for some of the biggest, best and most-groundbreaking games ever made.

Here is a list of ten big releases that will celebrate turning a decade old in 2023, starting with…

TOMB RAIDER – March 5

After the initial run of Tomb Raider games got pretty bad, this gritty reboot took us all back to basics, including having to make your own weapons for Lara to defend herself with on a storm-destroyed island. It was Uncharted without the sense of humour.

BIOSHOCK INFINITE – March 26

The final entry in the mostly-brilliant Bioshock trilogy took us above the clouds to the “utopian” city of Columbia. From there you embarked on a kick-ass adventure across parallel universes, in a closing chapter that was as bright and entertaining as the first chapter was dark and scary.

THE LAST OF US – June 14

Last year’s remaster and this year’s TV adaptation have this at the front of everyone’s minds, but yep, believe it or not, the post-apocalyptic challenges of Joel and Ellie are a decade old this year.

GRAND THEFT AUTO V – September 17

We’re now closing in on GTAV’s tenth birthday, and we still haven’t had a proper sequel. Sure, its makers were busy with Red Dead Redemption 2 and GTA Online, but we’d really, REALLY like to get our hands on GTA6 now please.

BEYOND: TWO SOULS – October 8

Not every big game anniversary is a celebration. This interesting misfire, which has you controlling Hollywood star Elliot Page, revolves around a character haunted and/or gifted with the constant presence of an otherworldly being. It was a big swing, it was a big miss.

ASSASSIN’S CREED IV: BLACK FLAG – October 29

Still the best Assassin’s Creed game, don’t @ me.

CALL OF DUTY: GHOSTS – November 5

While the reviews were middling at best, the fans of COD turned out in droves as usual, resutling in Ghosts shipping over $1 billion worth of games within its first 24 hours of launch.

PLAYSTATION 4 – November 15

Yes, we know, this isn’t a game, but it is still one of the very best gaming consoles ever made. Over a year since the PS5 launched, the last-gen console is still capable of playing 95% of all the new releases that are coming out these days.

SUPER MARIO 3D WORLD – November 21

Released on both the WiiU and the Nintendo Switch, this outing for Mario and his pals is rightly considered one of the very best games in the franchise to date.

XBOX ONE – November 22

One week after the PS4 dropped, Microsoft put out their console, and just like Sony’s entertainment system, the Xbox One is still a benchmark for modern gaming.
