Manchester United ran out 4-0 winners against Stoke today, but it was not enough to prevent Chelsea from claiming the Premier League title.

United dominated the tie from the beginning, enjoying the lion-share of possession. It looked to be only a matter of time until Ferguson’s men opened the scoring. It finally came when Vidic headed a corner down, into the path of Darren Fletcher. The Scot finished from three yards out to get the scoring underway.

Stoke had little by way of reply and Ryan Giggs made it two after being set up with by Berbatov. The third came in the second half after Wayne Rooney glided past Huth and lashed the ball across the face of goal. Higginbotham dived in and put it into his own net.

United’s players were obviously aware of events at Stamford Bridge, where Chelsea were on their way to beating Wigan 8-0 to claim the title, and celebrations were muted after each goal.

However, they kept plugging away and a fourth came late on, of the head of South Korean superstar, Park.

The game was further marred by United when Rooney was taken off with a suspected groin injury.
