The likes of Marty Morrissey and Ger Canning are very good at their jobs, but when it comes to GAA commentary, you really can’t beat the local lads.
Admittedly, there’s often more than a small hint of bias involved when regional radio stations provide commentary on matches featuring their local club or county, but the sheer unbridled passion resonating through the airwaves really is something to behold. It’s what the GAA is all about.
Having listened repeatedly to
Ollie Turner of Galway Bay FM provide a wonderful account of Kevin Walsh’s dramatic contribution to Killanin’s victory in the Galway Intermediate Final this morning, we decided to trawl through the archives to find some of our favourite pieces of local GAA commentary from radio stations and other local sources throughout Ireland in recent years.
Needless to say, there’s a veritable treasure chest of material and it didn’t take long for us to strike gold; if we’ve omitted anyone worthy of the list feel free to let us know, but for now, sit back and bask in some of the finest examples of GAA commentary, nay, commentary in general, ever heard.
